RRB Group D is India's largest single recruitment — with 1,00,000+ vacancies in each cycle. It's the best government job opportunity for 10th pass candidates (with ITI or without). Posts include Track Maintainer, Helper, Porter, Pointsman, and Gateman across Indian Railways. Starting salary is ₹21,000–₹26,000/month (Level 1, 7th Pay Commission) plus free railway passes, medical, quarters, and pension. The exam is relatively easy compared to NTPC/CGL — making it accessible to candidates from rural areas.
Railway Group D is conducted by RRBs (Railway Recruitment Boards) for Level 1 posts under the 7th Central Pay Commission. These are physical/manual work posts in track maintenance, workshop, and station operations.
Who can apply: Any Indian citizen aged 18-33 years who has passed 10th (Matriculation) from a recognized board. ITI certificate holders get preference. No graduation needed. SC/ST get 5 years age relaxation, OBC gets 3 years.
Selection process: CBT (Computer Based Test — 100 questions, 90 min) → PET (Physical Efficiency Test — running, weight lifting) → Document Verification → Medical. The PET is mandatory and eliminates many candidates — start physical preparation early.
Physical Test (PET): Male — 1000m run in 4 min 15 sec + lift 35kg weight. Female — 1000m run in 5 min 40 sec + lift 20kg weight. This is a qualifying test — you must pass it to proceed.

National Apprenticeship Certificate — complete apprenticeship training under a designated trade.
Physical Fitness
Start physical training early. Males: 1000m run in 4:15 min, 35kg weight lift. Females: 1000m in 5:40 min, 20kg weight lift.
