Mention your hometown, school marks, and one hobby. Keep it positive and enthusiastic.
Final Year Student (Campus Placement)

During my studies, I developed strong skills in accounting, financial analysis, and MS Excel. I completed a 2-month internship at XYZ Chartered Accountants, where I assisted with tax filing and audit preparation. I am detail-oriented, hardworking, and very excited about starting my professional career. Thank you for this opportunity."
For campus placements: mention your CGPA, internship, and one specific skill. Always end with enthusiasm for the opportunity.

During my studies, I developed strong skills in Java, Python, and SQL. I completed a project on a Student Management System using Java and MySQL, which helped me understand real-world application development. I am a quick learner, a good team player, and I am very excited about the opportunity to work at TCS and contribute to your projects. Thank you."
For IT interviews: mention your degree, CGPA, technical skills, and one project. Always end with enthusiasm for the company.
Commerce / MBA Fresher
"Good afternoon. My name is Sneha Patel. I have recently completed my MBA in Finance from XYZ Business School with a GPA of 3.8. Before my MBA, I completed my B.Com from ABC College. I have done internships at two companies — one in banking and one in financial consulting — which gave me hands-on experience in financial analysis and client management. I am detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about finance. I am confident that my skills and enthusiasm will be a great fit for your organisation."
Mention internships — they show real-world experience. Even a 1-month internship is worth mentioning.
Non-IT Fresher (Sales / Marketing / HR)
"Good morning. My name is Vikram Rao. I completed my BBA from ABC College in 2025 with 78% marks. I specialised in Marketing and have a strong interest in digital marketing and consumer behaviour. I am energetic, creative, and a strong communicator. I am excited about this role and believe I can contribute meaningfully to your marketing team."
For non-IT roles: focus on soft skills, communication, and relevant projects. Show enthusiasm for the specific role.

In my current role, I have led a team of 3 developers and successfully delivered 5 major projects on time. I am looking for a new opportunity where I can take on more challenging projects and grow into a senior developer role. I am a problem-solver, a team player, and I am always eager to learn new technologies."
For experienced professionals: mention years of experience, current company, key skills, and what you are looking for. Keep it under 90 seconds.
Manager / Team Lead (5+ Years)

I am known for my strong communication skills, ability to handle pressure, and focus on team development. I am looking for a senior management role where I can drive larger strategic initiatives."
For senior roles: quantify your achievements — "20+ projects", "team of 12". Numbers make your experience concrete and memorable.

For Daily Life (Meeting Someone New)

Casual Introduction
"Hi! My name is Ananya. I am from Bengaluru. I work as a teacher at a local school. I have been teaching for 4 years and I really enjoy it. In my free time, I love cooking, reading, and going for morning walks. I am also learning to play the guitar. It is nice to meet you!"
For casual introductions: be warm and friendly. Mention 2–3 hobbies. End with "Nice to meet you" or "It is great to meet you."

For Children (Class 1–5)

Class 1–3 Student
"Hello! My name is Riya. I am 6 years old. I study in Class 1 at Sunshine School. I live in Mumbai with my mummy, papa, and my little brother. My favourite colour is pink. I like to draw and play with my friends. My favourite food is pizza. Thank you!"
For young children: keep it very simple. Name, age, school, family, favourite colour, and one hobby. That is enough!
Class 4–5 Student
"Good morning. My name is Arjun Mehta. I am 10 years old and I study in Class 5 at Greenwood School in Pune. I live with my parents and my elder sister. My favourite subjects are Science and Maths. I enjoy playing cricket and reading adventure books. My favourite cricketer is Virat Kohli. When I grow up, I want to become a scientist. Thank you."
For Class 4–5: add favourite subject, hobby, and a future goal. This shows maturity and makes a great impression on teachers.

5 Golden Rules for "Tell Me About Yourself"

  • Keep it under 90 seconds. Interviewers lose interest after 2 minutes. Practice until you can say it in 60–90 seconds naturally.
  • Never say "Myself Rahul." Always say "My name is Rahul" or "I am Rahul." This is the most common Indian English mistake in interviews.
  • End with your goal or enthusiasm. "I am excited about this opportunity" or "I look forward to contributing to your team." This leaves a strong final impression.
  • Practice out loud 10 times. Reading it silently is not enough. Your mouth needs to practice the words. Record yourself and listen back.
  • Smile and make eye contact. Confidence is 50% of the impression. Even if your English is not perfect, a confident smile makes a huge difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

60–90 seconds is ideal. That is about 150–200 words spoken at a normal pace. Practice until you can say it naturally in that time without rushing.

No — in a professional interview, skip family details. Focus on education, skills, experience, and career goals. Family details are fine for casual introductions or college admissions.

Pause, take a breath, and say "Let me rephrase that" or "What I mean is..." — this sounds professional. Never say "Sorry, I forgot." Practice your script until it feels natural.

Use the same structure but customise 2–3 sentences for each company. Mention something specific about the company: "I am excited about TCS because of its global presence and training programmes."

The biggest mistake is starting with "Myself Rahul" — this is grammatically incorrect. Always say "My name is Rahul" or "I am Rahul". The second biggest mistake is speaking too long — keep it under 90 seconds.
